PERI Software CEO Sarav Periasamy to speak to NARUC Conference in Atlanta on smart grid technology
"The government has found that the smart grid technology could help homeowners cut their power usage by 20 percent," explained Sarav Periasamy, PERI Software, who is scheduled to speak at the conference
Atlanta, Georgia
Research shows that the nation's environmental saving energy options lean more towards the emerging development of smart grid technology. And the country's only minority owned company that has a proven comprehensive suite of solutions in that space is PERI Software, Inc., based in Newark, NJ with offices in California, China and India.
"Smart grid technology system allows utilities to communicate with customers, and vice versa to monitor the power used in peak times," said PERI's President & CEO Sarav Periasamy, who is schedule to present a successful smart grid use case application to the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, Annual Conference, in Atlanta Georgia Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, (4:00PM-5:00 PM) "Smart grid technology even allows people with electric cars or solar panels to sell power back to the grid at a profit."
The government reports it found in 2009, that the smart grid technology could help homeowners cut their power usage by 20 percent.
"Research also shows that 60 percent of the electricity generated in this country is lost to inefficiencies, and the fact that smart grid technology is green and really enhances grid efficiency by improved outage detections, it helps utility consumers feel good about saving energy," explained Periasamy who is presenting his "Use Case Application tool to demonstrate the return on investment to ratepayers of Smart Grid investment" to the NARUC Utility Market Access Partnership (UMAP).
Smart Grid technology transforms the way utilities can deliver power to customers, "but we need to educate and explain in layman's terms just how it works so customers understand it and can engage in the process," he said.
PERI Software is the only certified minority business enterprise in the U.S. with an end-to-end smart grid solution. PERI provides both its own smart grid advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart meter technology and software platform or PERI can act as systems integrators on any smart grid platform, regardless of technology.
Studies conclude that advanced metering initiatives alone are neither necessary nor sufficient for providing households with the feedback that they need to achieve energy savings. However, the initiatives do offer important opportunities. "To realize potential feedback-induced savings, advanced meters must be used in conjunction with demand side management measures like in-home (or on-line) displays and well-designed programs and devices that successfully inform, engage, empower, and motivate people," said Periasamy.
Periasamy also noted PERI is developing these Home Area Network devices enabling customers to control the use of electricity in their homes in real time.
There are also privacy concerns that surround the new technology that PERI will address and reveal how its business solutions will meet those demands.
"Smart Grid and Smart Metering introduce access control, network and application security concerns at and beyond the meter," explained Periasamy. "We will be discussing how to prepare a security policy, understand and prevent network security issues and respond to incidents."
Attendees will also hear PERI talk about the role based access control of data, devices, networks and applications, along with audits and reinforcements.
